The Sweet
Now one of the first bands I ever saw was a band called The Sweet, it was 1973 and my friends brother, who was 16 at the time and deemed responsible enough to take two 13 year olds to a gig in London, different time back then... anyway I wanted to pay tribute to this band, they really were hell raisers, star chasers and trail blazers, a true early metal band, and vastly underrated. The band was Brian Connolly on lead vocals, Steve Priest on bass, Andy Scott on guitars and lead vocals and finally the incredible Mick Tucker on drums. I start this show with three tracks from The Sweet. The first is a track off the Sweet Fanny Adams album from 1974 and this is Set Me Free which sounds like early Judas Priest with great harmony vocals. The second track is off the same album and is basically the title track Sweet F.A. I close this mini tribute to The Sweet with the popular but still heavy track Action.
The track Set me free from the 74 album Sweet Fanny Adams was also covered by Saxon on their 1984 album Crusader. It was also covered by Vince Neil on his Exposed album and Thrash metals Heathen on their breaking the silence album.. So you can see their legacy goes on.. Also featured in this show is a couple of tracks from Led Zeppelin off the live album Te Song Remains The Same
Diamond Head
Now here's a band with a staggered career, I loved them at the beginning of the 80's when we got hold of what could only be described as a demo album. White sleeve, no title and no track listing but the music was great. The band was Diamond Head. They've gone through a lot over the years, never really getting into their stride, when original vocalist Sean Harris left the band they replaced him with a couple of good vocalists, brought out a few albums which gave no real consistency to the band and consequently gave no grounding to the fans, including me, but the good news is they're back, with a new vocalsit, Rasmus Andersen who I hope stays with the band, he's a great singer and suits the band well. The album is The Coffin Train; it was released just a few days ago on the 24th of May. Here's a taster from that album, this is the track Serrated Love.
Diamond Head there with Serrated Love from the brand new album The Coffin Train. Always thought Brian Tatler was a vastly under rated guitarist. Now we have a request from Phil Waters who contacted us through our Facebook Page which is Rockin Rebel Radio, and Phil said please play Burn by Deep Purple it reminds me of my days at uni.. Just love the vocal mix of David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes.. OK Phil... here's Deep Purple Burn.
